Hello! Welcome to my page!

About Ms. Emmanuel

Hi! My name is Ms. Emmanuel, and I am the English language teacher at Windham Center School. I provide literacy support for students who do not speak English as a first language.

This is my second year at Windham Center School. I love to teach, and learn about the first languages of my students. In my spare time you can find me reading or spending time with my friends and family.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions about the ESOL program at Windham Center School.

Below is a helpful list of terms used by ESOL teachers:

TESOL/ESOL/ESL– Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, English for Speakers of Other Languages, English as a Second Language

EL/ELL – English Language Leaner

LAS Score – Language Acquisition Scale score. The LAS test is given once a year to measure a student’s English language proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

Biliteracy – The ability to read and write in two languages.

Heritage Language  –  A language spoken by someone who has a cultural connection to that language. A person may or may not be able to read and write in their heritage language.

I have a bachelor's degree in English from Mount Holyoke College, and will complete a master's degree in TESOL from Central Connecticut State University.
