I'm Mrs. McCormick and I am the Special Education Teacher for 4th and 5th grades. I serve as the case manager for students in 4th and 5th grades with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). I also assist with students receiving additional interventions throughout the school day.
This is my ninth year as a Special Education Teacher. In addition to Windham Center School, I taught at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School in Oakland, California and Expeditionary Learning Academy at Moylan School in Hartford, Connecticut. Prior to teaching I was a paraprofessional at North Windham School.
Feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions about the Special Education process.
SPECIAL EDUCATION HELPFUL INFORMATION:
-The following is a list of some common special education terminology. I hope it is helpful to you!
IEP: Individualized Education Plan
-If a student has become eligible for special education and related services, an IEP is developed for them. This is a legal document that follows the student even if they move schools or states. This document lists accommodations, goals, services hours and many other pieces of information that are used by school to best plan for their students.
PPT: Planning and Placement Team
-If your student is referred to special education and related services, a PPT meeting is held to review the referral and to determine if evaluations should be done to see if the student has a disability which may be impacting their ability to access the general education curriculum. The planning and placement team includes your students general education teacher, a special education teacher, an administrator and another service provider (for example-speech therapist, school social worker, school psychologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, teacher of the deaf/hard of hearing).
