Jara Rijs » Hello!

My name is Jara Rijs and I am the School Social Worker. I have been in the Windham Public School system for 9 years and I'm excited to say that this is my 7th at Windham Center. I am a local gal and live in Windham. I went to college at ECSU for my bachelors degree in child psychology and UCONN-School of Social Work for my masters degree in social work. You will hear me talk about my best friend Ernie (my pug) and my love for gardening and fresh food. I love it when I can get children to try new foods with me during Lunch Buddy time. I think that children need to be taught social and emotional learning as much as reading and math and look forward to making school fun whenever possible. Look for my goofy socks to prove it! I believe in this community and our children and look forward to working with you.

Pictured above are the fun photos from the 4th graders Intergeneration Program. Selected 4th grade students visit Douglas Manor nursing home to spend time with senior residents. Student are selected based on exhibiting the "Froggy Four' behavior in school, being a good role model, turning in homework, being a responsible learner and showing an interest in community service.
